Due to its incredibly varied habitats, no other African country can boast the fauna and flora diversity of Kenya. The country really has it all: vast savannah plains, freshwater and alkaline lakes, lush tea plantations, the Great Rift Valley, snow-capped mountain summits and even palm-fringed Indian ocean beaches.
General wildlife is prolific here at any time, but nothing tops the annual Great Migration, when nearly two million wildebeest and zebra follow the rains to new grass. Additionally, Kenya boasts the Big Five (Lion, Leopard, African Buffalo, African Elephant and both rhinoceros species), and many other smaller mammals, reptiles and amphibians. Over 1,100 species of birds have also been recorded in the country. It’s no wonder the official tourism slogan of the country is Magical Kenya!
Our specialised, guided, 7 day Kenyan running and safari combination is perfect for wildlife lovers and those with a serious sense of adventure; it combines the Lewa Safari Marathon with some of Kenya’s best national parks. Running in the shadow of Mount Kenya on dirt tracks within a Big Five area is the stuff of bucket lists and lifelong dreams. No wonder Runner’s World magazine calls this race ‘One of the top ten races to run in your life’.
Get ready for an amazing African running and wildlife safari!
*Please note: this marathon is famous not only for its stunning setting, but also for its fantastic fundraising initiatives, with all funds benefitting numerous community development and wildlife conservation efforts. All runners are required to raise certain amounts before partaking in the race.
