The classic South African safari scene is one of rolling grasslands dotted with acacia trees, with antelopes peacefully grazing in the distance; this is the Bushveld!
This sub-tropical woodland ecoregion sits at 750 to 1,400 metres above sea level, spans the Limpopo and North West provinces of South Africa, and is part of the larger savannah biome of the country. Apart from the classic well-grassed plains dotted with trees and tall shrubs, the region contains four important mountain ranges, including the UNESCO-recognised Waterberg Biosphere Reserve. It is also home to some of the continent’s most famous animal and bird inhabitants, many of them rare and endangered.
“Bushveld” is also the colloquial term used by South Africans when they say they are going on holiday in one of the many parks or reserves in this area of the country. This type of “bush breakaway” often goes hand in hand with an outdoor barbeque and an activity like fishing or riding mountain bikes, along with, of course, wildlife or bird watching.
This 8-day tour has been perfected over the years to provide you with a superb South African bushveld safari experience. We will visit three key bushveld parks and reserves, giving you the best chance to see all the mammals, birds, plants, reptiles and other creatures of this special region. We will stay in some carefully selected accommodation and enjoy twice-daily game drives, as well as excellent local cuisine and of course magnificent landscapes.
