Situated just south of the equator, in the quintessential African safari country of Tanzania, at 5,895 metres (19,341 ft) above sea level, Mount Kilimanjaro is Africa’s highest mountain and the highest free-standing mountain in the world. An icon in Africa and across the globe, “Kili“ as she is affectionately known, is one of the sights every person should see at least once in his or her life.
Every year a marathon is held in the shadow of this geological masterpiece. The route passes through many smallholding farms, villages, parts of town, banana and coffee plantations and patches of forest, providing great excitement to the residents who give ample vocal support. A marathon in this dramatic setting, catering for amateurs above all else, is truly a once in a lifetime opportunity!
Our specialised, guided, 7-day Tanzanian running and safari combination is perfect for wildlife lovers and those with a sense of adventure; it combines the “Kili” marathon with three of Tanzania’s world-famous national parks. We will meet up in the town of Moshi before the run and then afterwards we head west to Tarangire National Park, the Ngorongoro Crater and Lake Manyara National Park.Get ready for an amazing African running and wildlife safari!
