Bucket list conservation safari experience
Imagine a different kind of safari in the dramatic landscape of northwestern Namibia. On this bucket list Rhino Walking safari you will trek Rhinos on foot with our expert guide.
Taking you to one of the best private concession areas in Namibia, you will get the chance to get close to these magnificent desert-adapted animals. This area has the largest number of free-roaming Black Rhinos in the world. In fact, it is the only Rhinoceros species worldwide living on communally and traditionally-owned land without formal conservation status.
Conservation is ingrained in the Namibian psyche to such an extent that it is even in the country’s constitution and you will experience these innovative conservation efforts first hand. A portion of your safari fee will also go towards Namibia’s Rhino conservation efforts.

Day to Day Itinerary
DAY 1:
Start of safari: Windhoek to Palmwag Concession (overnight Palmwag Lodge) – We depart from Windhoek early in the morning and journey to the Palmwag Concession, arriving by late afternoon. The freshwater springs at Palmwag Concession support thriving populations of desert-adapted wildlife. You might spot dwarf antelope like Steenbok and Klipspringer, Hartmann’s mountain zebra, Southern giraffe, gemsbok (oryx), springbok, kudu, curious ground squirrels, black-backed jackals, and small spotted genets. The concession is also home to various reptiles, including the Kaokoveld sand lizard and Anchieta’s agama. We’ll get some rest to prepare for tomorrow morning’s early start on the five-night walking safari.
*An additional night can be added at Palmwag before the safari.
DAY 2-6:
Rhino Tracking on Palmwag Concession (Overnight: Palmwag Concession Camping) – Following breakfast, we will head out from Palmwag Lodge to the campground where our trek will begin, after receiving a thorough briefing from the Save the Rhino Rangers. Our daily schedule will vary, including walking and game drives, followed by lunch at the campsite.
The Save the Rhino Team scouts will be the only persons operating in the region where we will be walking—it is off-limits to other tourists. Since we will be monitoring the desert-adapted species that roam this area, the itinerary and exact route may vary depending on the group’s fitness level and the number of miles they want to cover each day.
Every morning, we will walk and track, with breaks for brunch or lunch. In the afternoon, after a period of repose, we will drive in open 4×4 safari vehicles, searching for wildlife and taking in the breathtaking surroundings. Namibia’s Damaraland area is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful regions in Africa, and one of the few places where wildlife is allowed to roam freely outside of national parks.
Bring only yourself and your personal items to Namibia; we will take care of all your camping needs (cooking, setup and breaking camp, etc.). The campsites will be equipped with dome tents, inside which there will be stretchers with comfortable mattresses, sleeping bags, and pillows. We will set up bush showers, hand and face wash basins, as well as bush bathroom facilities. Of course, there will also be camping chairs with tables for you to enjoy your meals during the day. The group will be limited to six people to ensure a private experience and a better chance to get up close and personal with the animals. We expect to see a variety of wildlife, including the renowned desert-adapted lions, leopards, jackals, spotted and brown hyenas, springboks, kudus, oryxes, elephants, giraffes, Hartmann’s mountain zebras, and black rhinos. We also hope to spot some of the predators that frequent this breathtaking region, including cheetahs.
On the final full day of the walking safari, we will return to the lodge where we stayed the first evening for a farewell dinner.
DAY 7:
Return to Palmwag (Overnight: Palmwag Lodge) – This morning, we will take our final walk in the area, followed by breakfast. Afterward, we will return to Palmwag Lodge for our last night of this incredible walking safari. In the afternoon, there will be an option for a game drive with the lodge.
DAY 7:
Return to Windhoek– This morning, after breakfast, we will make our way back to Windhoek. You have the option to explore Windhoek’s top attractions, such as the National Museum of Namibia, Daan Viljoen Game Park, and Christuskirche.
*An additional night in Windhoek can be added to the itinerary.
